Happy 100!

1914-dodge-model-30

Not sure of the exact date, but 1914 marked the birth of the Dodge Model 30, first car put out by the Dodge Brothers. (It had a Shaker Hood, as well as Shaker Seats, Shaker Windows, Shaker Roof, well… you get the idea.)

And if you need further proof that real men drive a Dodge, here’s a snip from Wikipedia that’s a clear endorsement by George Freakin’ S. Patton:

“In 1916, Dodge Brothers vehicles won acclaim for durability while in service with the U.S. Army’s Pancho Villa Expedition into Mexico. One notable instance was in May when the 6th infantry received a reported sighting of Julio Cardenas, one of Villa’s most trusted subordinates. Lt. George S. Patton led ten soldiers and two civilian guides in three Dodge Model 30 touring cars to conduct a raid at a ranch house in San Miguelito, Sonora. During the ensuing firefight the party killed three men, of whom one was identified as Cardenas. Patton’s men tied the bodies to the hoods of the Dodges, returning to headquarters in Dublan and an excited reception from US newspapermen.”

A neat bit o’ weird history…

You can beat a dead horse, but you can’t always beat a dead rider. Ever hear of Frank Hayes? No? Here’s the skinny:

th

On June 4, 1923, jockey Frank Hayes took off through the gates at Belmont Park on Long Island. He and his horse, Sweet Kiss (a 20-1 shot owned by Miss A.M. Frayling), made it to the finish line first. But when the horse crossed the finish line Frank Hayes was more than just “relaxed” – he was dead as a doornail. Hayes’ death was not discovered until Miss Frayling and race officials came to congratulate him shortly after the race and his lifeless body slid out of the saddle.

It was later determined that Hayes had died of heart failure shortly after Sweet Kiss took the lead, and the New York Times speculated that the jockey’s heart had given out as a result of severe training in order to make weight (he quickly went from 142lbs to 130lbs), coupled with the excitement of winning his first race.  Hayes, dressed in his colorful racing silks, was buried three days later.  In light of the incident, Belmont’s Jockey Club waived all of the rules and thus made Hayes’ win official.  This ruling makes Frank Hayes the only jockey to win a race while deceased.  In fact, it is the only time in sports history when a competition was won by a dead man (unless you count a few stupid boxers that crossed the Mob and didn’t throw a fight when they were supposed to.).

This *might* be the origin of the phrase “I’ll win if it kills me!”, but I gotta do some more checking on that….

A neat bit o’ music history…

Ran across this while looking up some obscure old instruments, thought it was a very informative demonstration of what you can do with very little money. This is Scott Ainslie, a blues musician and historian, demonstrating some cigar box guitars. More info on this guy can be found here: http://cattailmusic.com/

Very impressive talent on something that should sound awful!

Well, Now What?

Ok the annoying election ads are over for another 2 years. Thank God. I couldn’t afford another TV. ( I was about to pull a Elvis and do some indoor target practice).
So that being said, lets see what happens now that the Elephants have control of the big white dome. You want my opinion (Tough your going to get it anyway) ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Nothing is ever going to change up there as long as we have a 2 party system ran by big business and lobbyists.
So Washington, what are you going to screw us out of next?

RIP Jack Bruce

The incomparable Jack Bruce passed away today. I think he was the first to bring virtuosic electric bass playing to the forefront in a rock context (an argument could be made for Entwistle, too). JB was a great vocalist, too, and his ability to sing and play fretless (after his Cream days) boggles the mind.

They say it’s your birthday

Hey- Ho – Yes, I’m Still Around……

Anon sent me an eMail wondering what happened to me…..  I guess between being super busy on still finishing up a couple of CD’s that we have been working on for about a year, and some weird Summer allergies, time just slipped away before I realized it…….  ALERT!  ALERT! Later part of next month (October), MR will be visiting Seattle to check out how thing’s have been going there over the past year…….  I can’t wait….   Should be great and really good to see everyone from up there once again……  SEE YA THEN………..

Where Were You?

MR & I were playing a gig when we heard the  news today, oh boy.

I don’t Even Want To Post This…….

If anyone would have given me a list of people that would/could be probable suicide candidates, Robin Williams would have been so far off the the list and the radar it would be astronomical…..  I can not tell you how glad I am going to be when 2014 finally disappears from our current calendar……  This makes Two (2) people (One close – Dusten – One a super star  to me – Robin) who went with the suicide route along with more than I care to name that have passed on this year……  What is it with 2014?……  Is it just me, or has it got to everyone?……  I’ve accomplished less, I’m lazier, Just lost interest in many things that used to seem so important, seems I’m going backward instead of forward……  The World seems to be going into a giant tailspin that I’m not so sure it will recover from……  Let’s all hope and pray that that’s ALL it is – Just a BAD YEAR!, because if it’s not, we’ve had it…….  I’m going to start celebrating New Year’s tomorrow and every day thereafter until 2014 is GONE!……  Who wants to join the party!……  If things are going to get better – WE’RE GOING TO HAVE TO DO IT!……  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

6 Degrees of Jojo

For those of you new to our world, Jek, MR and some others have an annual outing called “Jojo Fest”
One of the first ones was in 2007 in Ft. Worth, TX. MR, and Robo drove down from MR Central in what would become known as “The Jojo Mobile”
Afterwards I purchased said vehicle.
Here’s a Pic. JoJo Mobile
Well not too long after acquiring this fine piece of History, I saw a CD in a Truck stop with a pic on the cover of the Jojo Mobile. But alas I did not grab it at the time, and forgot who the artist was. When I stopped back by it was gone. (I Know I Know) circa 2010.
Fast Forward 2014
I finally saw the CD again and lo and behold it would turn out to be one of the hottest new artists on the scene today.

Final Album Artwork……

Hey-Ho…..  Just thought you might like to see what the final cover for the new “Kelvinators” album is gonna look like…..  Jek is the North West U.S. distributor…..  S-o-o-o, Anon, and a few others that I promised copies to – If you don’t have them in about a week or so, Chase him down or notify me……

We decided to go with only 6 songs on this one – hence the “Cycle One” notation…..  It’s sort of an extended EP ( If you’re as old as me, you’ll know what an EP is/was)…..  Try not to get old, at least mentally (Ha!)…..

Well, here is the final cover artwork…..  Let me know what you think, and, yes I did all the artwork…..

It’s Comin’ Soon!……

The new (and first) CD by the “Kelvinators” is about to be released!……  The title will be “Hot Water Rinse”…… Within the next week or so – or so?……  You know how it goes…….  Lots of old covers with new twists……  Of course, Music is a personal taste, so you may LOVE it or HATE it…..  I’m pulling a BIG surprise on the other two Kelvinators – s-h-h-h-h, Don’t tell…..  There’s going to be some amazing stuff on this one……  Price?.….  It does take money for supplies, I’m doing everything else from A to Z, except what parts EC and Raj are playing, and, yes they do contribute other things too!……  It’s really a group effort and, if you Community members are interested, I’ll start today by posting the Cover Art (which could change slightly before total completion), and then upload a track (15 total tracks) maybe once a week……

Of Course, We’re not allergic to good, old-fashioned green-back cash-o Bucks……  If you want a hard copy with all the artwork and a printed custom CD (all done by me – Yeah, I’m bragging)…..  Maybe something in the range of $5 a copy plus shipping and handling (that barely covers the materials only – not counting the time, labor, wear and tear on my printer, computer, and everything else, including the .05 Pentel pencil leads I use for the “Layout” drawings (2H, by the way)(Ha!), and the resulting BRAIN DAMAGE ……(Oh, Yeah, A few mistakes along the way – it DOES happen)……  Anyway, that’s the cart before the horse – Wait till you hear a few cuts, then we’ll see if it’s worth pursuing any further…..

Let Me know if you JoJo’s want to hear some of this stuff, or should I just trashcan it right now, sit down, turn on the TV, pop in a DVD, Retire, Pig Out, and act my age by not doing anything worthwhile until a Tornado/Earthquake gets me……

WELL, I’m waiting……  Oh-h-u-m-m…….  Oh, here’s the Working Cover Art:
