  1. Here’s why, from the head of MTV:

  2. MTV killed the radio star. Social Media & streaming killed music videos.
All about the bottom line in the 21st & worst century (so far) IMHO.

    That’s a funny video, TTop.

OK maybe a few random thoughts on the original post… I’ve never really liked videos or MTV for that matter, well, except maybe for Beavis and Butthead.

I think there’s quite a bit of good music out there, but it takes much more work to ferret it out than in the old days when the record companies and radio stations “told” the people what good music is. And for anybody with idyllic visions of the “old” days, which I assume you mean the 60s and maybe some of the 70s… there was a *ton* of crappy music then, too. Or maybe I just don’t care for 60s music (except for Hendrix, The Who, and Cream, the first King Crimson album, and a lot of the old R&B stuff (which I don’t actively listen to but definitely appreciate))

As far as the 21st-century being the worst so far… I’m reading “Catastrophe 1914: Europe Goes to War,” a book about the first five months or so of WW1, which started a hundred years ago (day before yesterday). Between this and the classic “Guns of August” book, and of course everything else that happened in the 20th century, let’s just say that the “21st is worst” is definitely up for debate.
