Engage Your Brains……

I’m reserving this spot for the next MR’s De-Educational Quiz even though Jek said I couldn’t reserve a Post hole for a future post…… So, limber up the brain pan and the fingers and get ready…… As Brother Dave said, “It’ll be here, everybody wants to see it, and it’ll be here, Saturday the 25th”….. (Don’t hold me to the date – it may be sooner or Sunday at the latest)…….

DID YOU KNOW……I didn't think so.

” To kiss the hare’s foot” means to be too late for anything,

to be a day after the fair. The hare has gone by and

left its footprint for you to salute. A similar phrase is “To kiss the post”. Also, “Harefoot”. Swift of foot as a hare.

And in case you missed the anagram and secret formula last time under “Gibberish”………..

Sed tamen salis-petrae…………salt peter
LUR MONE CAP URBE……………anagram for pulverised charcoal
Et sulphuris………………………sulphur

P.L.

As most of you know we lost a charter member of our community this week MR’s Brother P.L. He never made a post but he influenced some of mine, and helped give me the love and knowledge of Music that I use in doing my quizzes. His service will be on Saturday August the 18th at Barnes and Johnson funeral home in MWC at 10:00am. I will miss him greatly and pray that his family will be comforted in the knowledge that we all loved him very much. As you all know this is “Elvis Week” the 30th anniversary of the passing of “The King” and P.L. was just about as big of Elvis fan as I have ever known, As we celebrate the life of Elvis Presley let us also remember one of his biggest fans also. And I dedicate this upcoming weeks quiz to him.
Ladies and Gentlemen, your attention please, P.L. Has left the building.

Music Trivia 08.12.07

Jack Norworth and Nora Bayes co-wrote Shine On, Harvest Moon. Norworth also co-wrote a song in 1908, with Albert Von Tilzer, that thousands of people sing every day in the United States for approximately six months out of the year. 4 Points

MR’s De-Educational Quiz – Apollo 11….

We all know Neil Armstrong’s first words when he set foot on the moon…… Or do we?….. The quote goes:

“That’s one small step for man. One giant step for mankind.”

Neil had to have the recording played back to him during de-briefing because he was sure that was NOT what he said…… For One (1) White Knight, what did Neil Armstrong think he said?….
For another White Knight, what were Buzz Aldrin’s first words he, the second man, said after stepping on the surface?…… And, for the bonus: Buzz Aldrin was the second man on the moon, but, he was the first man on the moon to do what?…… One (1) White Knight plus Two (2) White Pawns for this one……..

40 Years of Rolling Stone……

The Fortieth Anniversary of RS is on the stands…… It has a sticker on the front “SUMMER OF LOVE 1967 – San Francisco – Woodstock – London – The Sunset Strip – Making Sgt. Pepper’s – Dylan – Jimi – Janis – The Doors – 40 Classic Albums……. Has a lot of interesting articles……. Memories for us older MR members (I actually have an original copy of the first issue of RS), and, a Rock History Lesson for the Younger MR members…… Check it out

BARRY BONDS-THE BEATLES?……………………………………

I know most of this community aren’t into sports, but I found this quote interesting:

“And if nothing else, we can say that Bonds is truly the greatest steroids hitter in major league history. I know, I know, that’s a stupid statement, satisfying to no one… but then again, as Chuck Klosterman pointed out rather amusingly, the Beatles took performance-enhancing drugs (how else do you think they came up with side two of “Revolver”?), and no one holds it against them.”

BTW, I despise what steroids has done to baseball, from a historical standpoint.
Music, on the other hand, is not really about statistics (other than record sales).

The Band, Elwood, The Band……

The Band: Terraplane The Location: University of Oklahoma between the Towers The Dates: 23rd and 25th-August-1975……
tplanecomposite
Just a blast from the Past…… I was going to include one of the songs recorded on the 25th, but, I’ve got to get Jek’s help to upload it…… It was recorded on a HeathKit cassette deck with two cheap small mikes set-up 50 or so feet from the stage with no mixer or effects or clean-up….. What you would hear is what the audience heard….. So-o-o, as soon as I can catch up with Busy-Boy Jek, I’ll get the song on the blog and see if you, the Community, think we, The Remaining Members, should take another shot at some original recordings as the oppourtunity has presented itself and we’re not getting any younger…… There’s more than one member of the MR Community included in this “Too-Loose Production”….. Anyone want to hazzard a guess as to who?……

MR’s De-Educational Quiz- Who Is It?……

Cited in modern times as one of the“Renaissance Men”, this man, although a genius, did not deserve the title…… He cared nothing about Latin and Greek….. He never wrote poems or orations. He had little to say about philosophy and theology….. He took no interest in history, nor was he an architect or a sculptor….. Worst of all, he had no use for music, which (he said) had two great faults:

one mortal, in that music ceased to exist as soon as the piece was over; and one he called “wasting”: its continual repetition, which made it “contemptible.”……

Who was this famous person?…….

This might be too easy, so we’ll start at Two (2) White Pawns for the correct answer, and add One (1) White Pawn per day until the answer is revealed…….

What ever happened to…..?

Service and taking pride in doing a good job in this country. We went out to eat last night the restaurant did not have certain items ready that should have been, the cooks were playing grab A*@ in the back and the wait staff was having to make up excuses for them. They were apologising like crazy and I kept telling them “You don’t owe me an apology, the cooks that are not doing their jobs do” Which never came nor did any concern from the Manager either. I like most of you in my job if I do not do it right I get called on the carpet, wrote up, and get my birthday taken away, But it seems like in these other industries screwing up is not punished but the norm. Even in my industry, the other day I was chewed out because the shop did not do my Oil Change when it was due, but the mechanic who’s job it is skirted with no scars. I guess I just expect to much when I am paying my hard earned money for something, I expect it to be done right the first time. Maybe I was born 40 years too late Back in the day people took pride in treating customers with dignity and respect, back then “The customer was right” now we are “out of line” when we ask for our steak to be cooked correctly and our car to be fixed correctly the first time.

Music Trivia 08.05.07

His new group is called “Satellite Party” Who is he? What other bands did he front? What Festival did he and 2others found as a farewell concert for one of his bands? 4 Scrabble pieces, I mean points.

DID YOU KNOW? I didn't think so……..Giberish

Geber, the Arabian, was the greatest alchemist of the 11th century, wrote many treatises on the

“art of making gold” in the usual mystical jargon cause he would have been killed if found out by the

church… hence “Giberish”.

This is an example:
“Sed tamen salis-petrae
LURU MONE CAP URBE
Et sulphuris.”

This should be easy to recognize. The second line is an anagram.

I Am……

…….a digital dummy….. The quality and quantity of all the new entertainment hardware and software out there now is amazing….. Until I got my new HD system, I really hadn’t paid much attention to the advances over the last few years…… I stopped cable service years ago after it became more than I wanted to pay….. I figured I could spend less money buying DVD titles that I would watch more than once and then watch them whenever I wanted…… My TV watching became limited to a little news and weather in the mornings….. With a small antenna, reception was snowy and ghostly at best…… After I got my HDTV up and running, I thought I might as well see what snowy/ghostly looked like on big screen….. Imagine my surprise when I found super clear HD channels off my air antenna!….. I even have a 24/7 weather channel….. PBS has four (4) digital channels, the main one is broadcast in wide screen and comes in as clear and crisp as watching a DVD!….. AND, IT’S FREE!…… It’s great……. I am now in the process of becoming an educated digital dummy……
