Just a blast from the Past…… I was going to include one of the songs recorded on the 25th, but, I’ve got to get Jek’s help to upload it…… It was recorded on a HeathKit cassette deck with two cheap small mikes set-up 50 or so feet from the stage with no mixer or effects or clean-up….. What you would hear is what the audience heard….. So-o-o, as soon as I can catch up with Busy-Boy Jek, I’ll get the song on the blog and see if you, the Community, think we, The Remaining Members, should take another shot at some original recordings as the oppourtunity has presented itself and we’re not getting any younger…… There’s more than one member of the MR Community included in this “Too-Loose Production”….. Anyone want to hazzard a guess as to who?……

  1. Oh! Oh! I know! That’s J.J. on the drums. I would recognize him anywhere.

I thought MR was a strat man.

  3. Unless J.J. has turned Puerto Rican on me since I saw him last week and lost, let’s just say a “few pounds”, that’s not our J.J., Izard…..

I am a Strat man, HS….. Here’s the story – I had loaned my Strat to Dan (The other guitar player) while he was waiting for delivery on his new Les Paul he is playing in the picture….. Of course, he had already sold his SG, so he was guitarless…… I had to use my Gretsch for quite a while so he could use my Strat….. He claimed he couldn’t get the sound he wanted out of my Gretsch – I think he just didn’t like the neck and how heavy it was……. Well, anyway, just a couple of days before we played the O.U. gig, Dan gets his new guitar and definitely was bound and determined to use it…… I hadn’t played my Strat for a long time and was way too busy getting everything ready for the gig, so I decided not to spend the time re-sitting it up for me and getting used to the thinner neck until after we played the O.U. thingy….. I continued using the Gretsch for slide work and some open-tuning playing, but, went back to my ’72 white Strat as my main guitar……

  4. Just a little more info for anyone interested: The third row from the top – Left photo is of a couple of friends of ours, Keith and Daryl, who opened for us with an acoustic set – Both later became members of Terraplane as other members left – Right photo is of Wes and Tommy who ran sound and lights for us. They were great and always there, I guess for the love of music and friendship because they didn’t make any money, Hell, In Oklahoma, in the ’70’s, the band didn’t make any money!…… All photos were taken by MR Community member Lazyj…… Jek knows who that is….. I won’t expose the other MR Community members unless they want to fess-up to being involved, but, that’s MR himself with the black Gretsch guitar….. Let the Music set you free, “Let It Bleed”, or just “Let It Be”……

That is Rick Lopez on drums….I tried to forget about him. However, he gave the Terraplane Tattler quite a few things to write about. Now that was the good old days. What year was it Jimi Hendrix played in the old fieldhouse at OU. WHAT A SHOW!!! Great pics…..

  6. Yeah, Rick was a case, especially when he took off to Florida and left us high and dry right in the middle of recording the original songs….. Hendrix played O.U. on May 8, 1970 – just 4 months before he died on September 18, 1970….. I am still trying to figure out why I missed that concert!……

  7. Isn’t that Randalf the Grey On The MOOG ? All these years I have heard the Origional Tapes of this show but You never showed me these photos. Any other Gems you have dug up? BTW I definately think you should get together and do some recording again.

  8. Izzard: EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may be a drummer but I never took off in the middle of a project.

  9. Are you sure you haven’t seen these photos, J.? Remind me next time you’re over because there are quite a few more…… There is also an 8mm film of “Brown Sugar”….. No sound of course, but, once I get it over on DVD, I’m going to attempt to sync the sound to it…….

  10. No I do not remember any photos of the OU concert, And I definately know you never showed me the Brown Sugar 8mm. Looking forward to it.

Actually, the singer/moogist in question is Randalf BEFORE he was grey. Let us set the record straight on percussionist Enrique Jesus Lopez. He took a leave of absence (pre-approved) in order to tour the upper midwest with a WORKING band. It was impossible to eat and pay the rent on Terraplane earnings alone. After a slight return, Rique (not Rick) left for Florida to marry his cousin Marla (insert inside joke here). At least he didn’t “take his drums home to clean ’em”–I stored those things for about five years.

  12. I was there!!! I was almost always there. Good God we’re old. Old, but still good. Enrique, what a stab from the past that is. He didn’t like me. He REALLY didn’t like me when I kept beating him at Foosball. Hahahahahahhaha. Funny, I had just looked at those pics that MR gave me. I love you guys, well, except for Lopez, he can eat a bee. Har. (ruhroh, I’m going into pirate mode)

  13. I had forgotten that Rick (Rique) did take off to play with another group, but, the Florida thing did result in him being gone longer than expected…… The band members took turns producing a Band Paper of sorts……. Well, Rick was absent when it was time for his issue, so-o-o, I found a pic of him and here was the result:

The “Taking my drums home to clean ’em” came from another drummer we had, Chuck Holman…… At the time, we had two drummers, Chuck and Rick (I always called him Rick)…… All the equipment was usually transported in either/both my VW bus and RtG’s pick-up….. After a gig at the NCO club at Tinker AFB in OKC, Chuck said he was going to take his drums home to clean them…… Needless to say we didn’t see Chuck again…… Well, for a long time anyway, he actually came back in another later version of T-Plane…… Lots of stories about that band….. One of these days, I promise, I’ll get it all up on my website…… Really…..

Chuck also turned up in 1977 to audition for Randalf and Deputy Dan’s next band, The Jupiter Effect. He got the job, then, predictably, “took his drums home to clean ’em”.

  15. “The Continuing Story of Bungalow Chuck”….. I had forgotten you told me that, RtG….. Drummer’s, whatta gonna do with ’em?……

  16. Which one’s Pink? errrr…. I mean Jake?

  17. “Drummer’s, whatta gonna do with ‘em?…… ”

MR: Excuse me! Remember my drums are dirty and they will probably stay that way.

  18. J.J. do you mean dirty as in in down & dirty sounding (like turning a Pig Nose Amp up all the way for that filthy, dirty distortion? Or do you just mean grimy?

  19. Both. I must admit I need new heads. But I can replace them anywhere I don’t need to “Take them Home and Clean them”
