ROUND II: E-QUIZ 3………Nicknames

Every state has had it’s

sobriquet. The people of Arkansas are called……..?

Acme – Still Alive and Well…..

There’s a construction project out for a new park in Clinton, OK – The Acme Brick Park….. It’s rumored Wylie Coyote (Super Genius), a life-long customer of Acme products, will attend the dedication ceremonies if he can get clearance from Warner Brothers……

Construction Projects…..

If your idea of a Construction Project is a bunch of Red-necked workers in hard hats with tool belts standing around whistling at passing women, here is some of the terminology I have to deal with in the bidding, construction, and completion of a typical modern Construction Project…..
Activity: A discrete part of a project that can be identified for planning, scheduling, monitoring, and controlling the construction project. Activities included in a construction schedule consume time and resources.
Critical Activities are activities on the Critical Path. They must start and finish on the planned early start and finish times.
Predecessor Activity: An activity that precedes another activity in the network.
Successor Activity: An activity that follows another activity in the network.
Critical Path: The longest connected chain of interdependent activities through the network schedule that establishes the minimum overall Project duration and contains no float.
Float: The measure of leeway in starting and completing an activity. Float Time is not for the exclusive use or benefit of either Owner or Contractor, but is a jointly owned, expiring Project resource available to both parties as needed to meet schedule milestones and Contract completion date.
Free Float is the amount of time an activity can be delayed without adversely affecting the early start of the successor activity.
Total Float is the measure of leeway in starting or completing an activity without adversely affecting the planned Project completion date.

…..And here is the one I really love:

Fragnet: A partial or fragmentary network that breaks down activities into smaller activities for greater detail.

So, the next time you think that all it took was a bunch of Peanut-Heads to build the building you work in, just re-read this post……

Dylan’s comments on modern recordings

From a 22 August 2006 Reuters story: “I don’t know anybody who’s made a record that sounds decent in the past twenty years, really,” the 65-year-old rocker said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
-and-
“You listen to these modern records, they’re atrocious, they have sound all over them,” he added. “There’s no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing, just like … static.”

Discuss. I’m not sure whether he’s referring to arrangement issues or the “loudness battles,” where the signal is compressed to the max so everything is loud (bye-bye dynamic range).

ROUND II: E-QUIZ 2 – American History

In the Civil War this

term (name) was applied by the Federals to the peace party, supposed to be the covert friends of the Confederates.

3 Night – Two Day B-Bash (Intro)

…….This doesn’t include pre-bash activities which included proper attire shopping, dining at Bourbon Street Cafe, and hitting the highlights of OKC (about 5 minutes on that one)…… Nor does the 3N-2D include all the journey’s home in four directions out of Austin on Monday….. The first night was the party mentioned by J.J. put on by longtime friends from back in the “We’re the Band” days….. A night of wide screen football, baseball, Pink Floyd videos, Beatles marathon, and generally sitting around in an outdoor hot tub badmouthing Washington (the Gov’mint not the football team), and anything else that came to mind….. Along with all kinds of snacks, drinks, and a large hand-made B-Cake for you-know-who (see below), I have to say, all-in-all, a very full and enjoyable experience that lasted ’til around 1:30 in the a.m…….. This was the start of the whirlwind, as we were up and on the road out of Oklahoma by 9:50 a.m. the next morning heading to Austin by way of Fort Worth using an alternate route because of the OU-Texas traffic we anticipated to be clogging I-35…… I’ll pick-up at this point on the next post, as I’m still trying to recover enough to make it to work tomorrow and the V.A. for a scheduled MRI….. Questions and comments are now welcomed from the Peanut Gallery, just don’t get ahead of the story as there is lots more to come……MR B-Cake This is called ” Finger-Lickin’ Pickin’ ” with Blues Brothers accompaniment…….

ROUND II: E-QUIZ 1 – Divide a Nation

While MR and JEK are on their road trip, they better come back with some good stories, here is the first quiz of the second round.

Divide a nation into parties or set your enemies at loggerheads and you can have your own way. Divide and govern. “Every city or house divided against itself shall not stand”…………was said by???

Randolf The Gray…..your prize will be in

the mail as soon as i figure out what it is.

Happy 6.0 MR

We had MR’s birthday party last night and A good time was had by all, I had the privilege of meeting lots of persons from MR’s past and hearing lots of good stories from them. Thanks to Jek for inviting me and my wife and hope that you have a great time on your road trip.
It’s hard to think of MR being that old he doesn’t look a day over 80!!!!! ( It was there I had to)

Zappa Plays Zappa – Tour De Frank

I just saw that Dweezil and some Frank band members are playing a tour of Zappa music.  This seems really cool.  For more info, check out the Zappa Plays Zappa site.  You can also read an interview with Dweezil here.  I see that they are coming to Denver, Dallas, and Seattle.  Sorry, didn’t notice any OK.  Guest stars include Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai.

Dweezil Zappa

iTunes with A.I.?…..

It appears that way to me….. In my Looney iTunes post, I was, and still am, at a 2251 song library….. I just uploaded the albums and then start the thing each day on random play….. According to the song count, lots of songs have not even been played yet, while others have been hit on hard….. There’s where the A.I. thingy comes in….. I was freaked by the most played song!….. Can anyone guess what it is?….. It should be easy…… As a note: The top three were all songs that I’ve played cover versions of in various bands over the years…..

Allan Holdsworth – Still Going

I saw the Allan Holdsworth & Alan Pasqua Group tonight and I must say they were quite good.  One of the highlights was the drummer, Chad Wackerman.  He was amazing.  His site sez that he played quite a bit with Zappa in the 80’s.  It is very likely that he was with Zappa when I saw him in OK in ’84.  Bass player Jimmy Haslip and keyboardist Alan Pasqua were no slouches either.

They played the Triple Door here in Seattle.  The Triple Door is a nice, modern concert lounge, with stair stepped half tables where you can order drinks and food.  It is a better venue than the uneven, generally overpriced Jazz Alley.  If you’re in Seattle tomorrow night, you should check them out for their second show.  They mentioned that they are in LA later this week with cameras rolling for a new DVD.

E-QUIZ 29: ….Cow, Humble….

What is a Humble

cialis generic

Cow? (I’m sure this is not from Texas or Oklahoma)

Football in Oregon…..

Not being a sports-nut to speak of, I didn’t even tune into the OU-Oregon game until after halftime, but I have to agree with friend of mine over the on-sides kick…… The question wasn’t whether an Oregon player had touched the football before it went 10 yards – The question was how does a Ref explain an OU player, that was not in the pile of players, walking up and handing him the ball while they were still unpiling?….. The Refs were right about one thing – a defensive player did touch the ball alright – He recovered it as it squirted out of the pile!….. That’s what I refer to as a GREEN call by the Ref’s….. They had to be paid for that one because nobody’s that blind……

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m get tired of all the OU fanatic stuff that goes on during football season, and I was actually rooting for them to lose a game early in the season so I wouldn’t have to listen to all the “We’re No. 1” crap day-in and day-out, but, this time, it was definitely a case of “Blind Justice”…..

I wonder if there is a big market for braille TV’s in the great Northwest?……

E-QUIZ 28:………..Vapors

In Latin, what is the name of a

vaporous drop supposed to be shed by the moon on certain herbs and other objects when influenced by incantations.

“Upon the corner of the moon,
There hangs a vaporous drop profound;
I’ll catch it ere it come to ground.”
