Imagine

Imagine a world without commercialism. Christmas would be much more like the ones I remember. Imagine a world with out hate. John Lennon would still be here. Imagine the songs he would have written by now. Just remembering 30 years ago today. John lives on in the memory of his fans. Long live the music.

  1. Man, it has been 30 years since John Lennon left us….. Yeah, it’s a shame that a “Good Christmas” is based on how much money consumer’s spend and not on Love and Goodwill….. It would be interesting to see how Lennon would view and react to our current “World” – such as it is….. Time to listen to “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” one more time….. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night……

  2. I remember being crushed when I found out the morning of the 9th (over oatmeal) that he’d been killed. I initially thought my aunt was playing a mean joke when she told me.

  3. I hate to say it, but, that sounds a lot like something your Aunt would do – at that time, anyway……

I heard about John Lennon’s death on my car radio after leaving the Shepard Mall theatre where I had just watched “The Blues Brothers” movie for the second time…… You just don’t forget things like that, although, I do have trouble remembering what went on yesterday – Nothing of importance, I hope…..

  4. Like most normal people, I was watching Monday Night Football.

  5. I don’t do well with “Normal”….. So, you got to see the news break-in with Walter Kronkite about the shooting?…. Or, was it Howard Cosell?

  6. My love of all things Beatles had not developed yet and I have no idea were or what I was doing. The Murrah Bombing and the Twin towers etched into my mind forever. Both cases Mowing Greens out at TAFB Golf Course.

  7. Cosell. But I’m pulling your leg a bit. I heard the next day that Cosell announced it on MNF — it was way after my bedtime to have seen it live.

  8. I figured it was Cosell, as he was the “Big Cheese -Top Dog” Sports announcer during that period of time….. Cronkite was in his early sixties by then, but, I think he was still in the broadcasting game, and it seems I remember a National News broadcast by him on the assassination……

Thanks for reminding me of how old a “Peanut Head” I am, HS…. Where in the Universe has the time gone?…..

  9. Ok I have determined that I am the only one of us who heard it as it happened.
I had just gotten home from Night School At Star Spencer (Another Long Story) I flipped on the 13″ B&W in my bedroom and was watching Monday Night Football, Miami was playing New England and the game was running late About 10:10 PM Howard Cosell was commenting about a play and without changing his famous tone he said ” I just have Been handed a Bulletin It appears that former Beatle John Lennon has been shot twice in New York City and is Dead on Arrival at Roosevelt Hospital” I then spent the rest of the night (Until I fell asleep about 2:00am) Watching the continuous News coverage from the scene and NYC. I remember being Mad as Hell as well as sad at the same time. 30 years later I still feel the same way.

  10. You’re not the only one, Mr. J., it’s 30 years past, and I’m still mad, maybe madder, since I read the book on Lennon’s assassination, which was banned from U.S. Publication….. I have a UK copy of it….. It may not be now, I don’t know, but, everyone should read it if they get the chance, whether they are a music fan or not….. …And, of course, still sad, for the World lost not only a great talent, but, a great man in every sense of the word….. Could you imagine partying down with John Lennon and Harry Nilsson, then going to the studio with them?….. It’s sad – they’re now both gone…..
