New Music…..

….From “My Generation”…… Big names from the past are still at it, and, after listening to some of these new albums, they are still on the top of their game….. Here’s a few of the new ones I’ve been exposed to: Steve Miller BandBingo!, J.J. Cale with Eric ClaptonThe Road to Escondido, Tom Petty and the HeartbreakersMojo, and even DevoSomething for Everybody, along with the new one from Jimi Hendrix – Valleys of Neptune, released 40 years after his demise…..

I’m hoping we have up and coming young talent to replace these masters when they retire….. I don’t listen to too much new stuff, but, through a fellow band member, I got to hear an amazing Oklahoma talent (even got an autographed CD): Ali HarterWorry the Bone….. It’s based in the Blues….. Check her CD out if you get the chance….. She has a national following….. “Never too old to Rock ‘n’ Roll”…….

One Response to “New Music…..”

  1. I was going through my music collection and ran on to a classic blues album that I hadn’t listened to in many a moon….. It’s “Ton-Ton Macoute!” by Johnny Jenkins….. It came out in 1970 on Capricorn records (same label as the Allman Brothers)….. I have it on vinyl which is great, but, the CD makes it greater because of the two (2) additional previously unreleased tracks!…..

You ask what makes it so special?….. It started out to be Duane Allman’s first album, but, he got involved in putting together “The Allman Brothers Band”, so it was shelved for a while until Phil Walden and Johnny Sandlin pulled in Johnny Jenkins of “Johnny Jenkins and the Pinetoppers”, the band in which Otis Redding had been the singer….. “Down Along the Cove”, a Bob Dylan song is, to me, the best track on the album, and, here is the kicker – Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jaimoe of “The Allman Brothers Band” play on the album – Duane plays some smokin’ acoustic slide guitar…. Check it out, even if you’re not a Blues fan – It’s one of my favorites….
