  1. Auxiliary trivia:

The drummer for another band was befriended by the Manson family, but eventually got creeped out and stopped hanging around them. Subsequently the drummer would come home and find furniture moved around, just as “a message” from the family that they were watching him.

The house where Tate was murder originally belonged to a producer who had worked with this band, and to whom the drummer had once introduced the Manson family. There is some speculation that the family arrived at the Tate residence actually seeking to harm the producer, not knowing that he had moved and Tate now lived in his former residence.

Who is the band and for bonus points who were the drummer and the producer?

  2. Nine Inch Nails and the album was The Downward Spiral. Also of note, Marilyn Manson’s debut album was recorded in that house.

  3. No answers except where the blog went on Sunday for a bit. Sorry about that — the server and I had some unscheduled personal time. Anyway, all is better, complete with a new MySQL version. You can Unicode all you want now.

  4. The producer mentioned was Terry Melcher, who worked with a lot of the California Surf bands of the 60’s. The drummer was Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys( mentioned in the Two Lane Blacktop post), who hung out with Manson for awhile & introduced he & his music to Melcher. When Melcher showed no interest in signing Manson, is when Manson plotted to murder Melcher. He did not know Melcher had sold the house to Roman Polanski & Sharon Tate…………………thus, Helter Skelter. This is why Marlilyn Manson wanted the house. Just a little twisted?

  5. Very good Sunn, I’ll have to look up that Two Lane Blacktop post — I don’t remember it.

The Beach Boys song “Never Learn Not To Love”, on their album 20/20 is reputed to be written by Manson, although it is credited to Dennis. More here.

  6. Ok 4 points to Izzard for this weeks Correct answer, 1 extra for the MM Ref. As for yor Mr. Ttop 3 points for coming up with an auxillary question related to the origional post. The Post that Sunn referrs to is the 05.27.07 trivia. and Sunn 3 total points (actual and Bonus) for the right answer toTtop’s question.
