Did we really free Iraq?

Iraq’s parliament has given in to UN and US pressure to modify voting rules in a forthcoming referendum on the constitution.

Originally the assembly decided that the two-thirds majority needed in three provinces to defeat the landmark charter would be counted from all registered voters rather than actual voters.

Now the parliament has passed a motion saying that only those who actually vote will be taken into account.

The previous rules would have made it virtually impossible to defeat the constitution.

It sounds like Iraq will be free as long as it lets us call the shots.

  1. We freed them from Saddam “Insane”, but there is a long line of replacements standing in line just waiting for the U.S. of A.’s “general Public” to get completely fed-up with the deaths, expense, and all the other “Bad” things that go along with an extended occupation…… And, with our short-term interest in completing any project that can’t be resolved in a matter of months, that time is fast appoaching….

Those people have been fighting each other for thousands of years…. They don’t want nor like “outside” interference….. Even those who are considered “good” and on our side, wish we would leave their country….. Why?….. It’s a religion based area…. All aspects of their lives, including their government, are ruled by religion….. A very specific religion, and if you are not of that religion, you have no business being involved in their business…..

How do you keep these people free?…. You don’t, you can’t, it’s not possible within the current parameters….. Forced freedom will not work…..

I have a saying that goes, “You can’t change someone, unless they want to change themselves”…..

  2. Actually, yesterday the Iraqi parliament changed the rules back due to international outcry.

  3. TTop that really surprises me. Maybe there is hope for mankind.
In my diatribes I don’t seem to sound ultra liberal. Actually, I have no
political party preference. Just like to see the right people doing the right
    thing.

I don’t know if Iraq can ever be “free” by the American definition, but
guess who IS free. Do Usama bin Laden ring a bell? Too bad there just
weren’t “enough quality targets in Afghanistan”.
