It’s President’s Day…..

We need a new one……

  1. I nominate PD Bob ;}

  2. I’m not complaining. I like our current pres. Things are not getting worse, which is refreshing. Also our world relations have improved, almost overnight.

No offense to PD Bob – I think he’s better off working for us below the radar.

  3. I’m waiting. Are we experiencing grid lock or an endemic problem with our government.

Did anyone catch the nasty bit of work Olympic protesters did in Vancouver? Looked like the same bunch of anarchists that screwed up the Battle In Seattle.

  4. If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve.

  5. Yes, Anon, we have an endemic problem with our government….. It’s Broken!….. A lot of it comes from HS’s comment (with a twist) – There’s too many that were elected, they went, but, they sure as hell are not serving…… We are using up any hope of a Rosy, stable, and sound future with all these bail-outs and cash programs…… I just saw today that we have a new “Cash for Clunker Appliances” now….. Yep, you just go in and buy any new energy efficient unit to replace your old one and get all kinds of cash back….. This one, though, has got nasty – The Feds are letting the individual states control who, what, and how much you get….. 13 states are already doing it…. In Kansas, which didn’t place any limits above and beyond the Feds, are already out of cash….. It was said that you could get up to $800 on a new fridge – almost free….. When does this burying ourselves in debt stop?…… Where are the customers going to come from in the future if everybody gets new stuff now?….. A new car and/or a major appliance are both long term purchase’s – Most people I know are lucky if they can afford one new car in a lifetime. I think we are severely over our heads and are killing whatever bleak future we may have….. Does the Stock Market Crash of 1928 mean anything?…. Are we heading that direction in a few years?…..

PDB said he didn’t want to be President, although, he said he would be a great one….. The first thing he would do is put Washington D.C. underground….. “They’ll be no more stinkin’ snow days for Government employees, and, terrorists would have a hard time running a plane into the White House or Congress (of course, that’s not too big of a problem, as they’re not there most of the time anyway)”….. PDB claims he’s more effective as a “Mole” in the Government’s infrastructure…..

  6. Sorry, MR, I have to go with the jekster on this one.
Prior to 2000 I considered myself an Independent. However, the last administration was enough to make me change to Democrat.
I was born during the Truman presidency. I can not remember one party as obscene as the current GOP regime.
Every thing they say is a direct contradiction to what they have previously promoted. Please watch MSNBC & compare it to Faux News.
Sadly, the Oklahoma senators are among the worst.
Bill O’Reilly, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin-need I say more?
Have things really gotten worse in the past year?
Weren’t the things people are bitching about, all brought on by the last administration? Nuff said.
The current administration is making mistakes, but at least they seem to be making an effort for the good of the people.
Sorry to be on the soapbox. Having lost a large portion of my 401K (being retired I have no way to recover), having children who can barely get by, etc, etc. the behavior of the GOP the past year has made me somewhat bitter.

  7. I’m on a roll:

This is the 21st Century, my friends.

Big Business shows its loyalty and responsibility by laying off hundreds of thousands, shipping their jobs to China or Bangladesh and screwing their old-time employees out of their pensions.

Blue Cross shows its loyalty and responsibility by raising their premiums to unconscionable rates, refusing to insure anyone who had the flu anytime since 1987, and reaping record-breaking profits.

Banks show their loyalty and responsibility by refusing to help people stay in their homes; turing them out into the streets. John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” depicted your friendly, neighborhood bank bulldozing farmhouse after farmhouse in 1932. Now it’s being done done everyday – without the need to hire a heavy equipment operator.

Credit Card companies show their loyalty and responsibility by charging interest rates that used to send guys in my old Brooklyn neighborhood up the river for 5 years – and it’s all made legal by the prostitutes who call themselves congressmen and senators.

    Feats Don’t Fail Me Now!

  8. Like most people (I think), I base a lot of my opinions on what happens in the outside world (that’s anything outside of my front door) on how it directly affects me….. In your case, Sunn, loss of your 401K…. Did that happen during the current or previous Admin?….. In my case, those of us living on S.S. Benefits did not receive a cost of living increase for 2010 – the first time this has happened since the cost of living increase was started in the mid-seventies….. I don’t see anything going down in price out there, do you?…. Another thing that directly affects me is the severe cuts in VA Medical benefits and personnel….. They are so short on personnel, that appointments and treatments that used to take days to get now take weeks, even months, and, even then you better be ready to wait hours on end in a crowded waiting room full of sick people….. Just where you don’t need to be….. I think I more than paid my dues to this Nation, and, maybe I’m a little I, Me, Mine, but, I think they owe me what I and every other citizen my age have been promised all our lives…..

It’s my opinion (For What It’s Worth), that the current Administration is pulling a reverse Robin Hood – They are stealing from the poor and giving to the rich…. They are abusing the very people they are supposed to be helping….. The same people who have no power to stand up to them….. Just how many people on fixed or no incomes (unemployed) are able to take advantage of all these bail-outs and cash programs?….. I know if they would have given me $10,000 for the vehicle I’m driving, I still couldn’t have purchased a new car….

To sum it up, I don’t think we’ve seen the worst yet…..

  9. And I have to agree with Sunn, the GOP is a nakedly obscene party. It’s clear whose interests they support, financial interests, the same interests that got us into the current mess. After a burn in the dot com bust I got out as soon as the stuff hit the fan. There was plenty of warning in the financial news and even from certain people in government (excluding Greenspan).

Now the Democrats are in and Obama convinced voters he and the party will change things. I want to believe he will at least try and will give him the benefit of doubt for the time being. But, I have nagging voices in the back of my mind.

Bank deregulation started with the GOP and Ronald R. and was finished with the Democrats and Bill cigar Clinton. Some of Bush’s financial advisors, the ones that advised against regulation of derivatives, are now advising Obama.

I could go on about the WTO and free trade zones. Lots of blame to go around. The party in power gets the large contributions, GOP or Democrats. We know it’s about the money.

  10. Who got the Bush stimulus money we did. Who got the Obama stimulus money the very companies that put us here (comment #7)

  11. Here is a post from the web site (now pulled) of the lunatic that flew into a federa building in Austin, TX today. While I in no way condone what he did, he did have some valid points.

“I live in a country with an ideology that is based on a total and complete lie. It also made me realize, not only how naive I had been, but also the incredible stupidity of the American public; that they buy, hook, line, and sinker, the crap about their ‘freedom’ … and that they continue to do so with eyes closed in the face of overwhelming evidence and all that keeps happening in front of them.”

He also wrote: “Why is it that a handful of thugs and plunderers can commit unthinkable atrocities (and in the case of the GM executives, for scores of years) and when it’s time for their gravy train to crash under the weight of their gluttony and overwhelming stupidity, the force of the full federal government has no difficulty coming to their aid within days if not hours? ”

Yes, MR & LSD, I realize most of the things you pointed out are an atrocity. Again, who started the ball rolling. Bush initiated the first bailouts, initiated this generations’ Viet Nam. He took “Good Old Boy” politics to a new level. This time around the “Good Old Boys” just happened to be big business, oil companies & buddies in the business of War.

And yes, I lost most of my 401K before he left office.

“Proud (Not) to be an Okie from Muskogee (OKC)”

  12. Like you, Sunn, I don’t agree with the act, but, I can definitely relate to his statements….. This country hasn’t had a decent administration since JFK was assassinated in 1963….. He was going to pull all of our advisers out of Vietnam no later than 1964….. I have a video of him making this statement on the White House lawn in an interview with Walter Kronkite….. Within three weeks, he was dead, and Johnson was in…. He gave the military machine and big business everything they wanted to wage an undeclared war….. The results of which were horrific – Over 58,000 young Americans dead, hundreds of thousands wounded, not to mention the million or so Vietnamese who died….. I am a firm believer that Johnson knew everything about November 22, 1963 before the fact, and, I believe most, if not all, that have served as our President since have been briefed that they walk a thin line, and their Presidency can end by the Klingon Rules of Succession…. I’m surprised we have lasted into the 21st Century….. The population just doesn’t listen….. It’s all there – right in the news – You just have to listen to what’s not said – Read between the lines…. I know it’s an “I, Me, Mine” attitude, but, I hope this country survives until after I turn to Dust…

Not to change the subject, but, you know why they stopped the draft?…. It wasn’t because we didn’t need it – Us Draftees were disrupting their blind obedience rules…. We were questioning the very foundation of the Military…. We paid a heavy price for doing so, and, I guess I was one of the lucky ones – I had a CO that thought along the same lines – I made Buck Sergent in less than two years (usually takes 12 or more years without waivers in time and grade)….. I even ended up a Drill Sergent before my military experience was over….. They offered me more stripes and bonus money, but, I knew I had pushed my luck to the limit….. If you want to live in a different world, join the Military or go into Politics….

“We Got To Get Outta This Place” we’re in….. Anyone know how – I’m may be too old for a “Revolution”, but, I’m up for it…. PD Bob said he was in….. Anyone else?…..

  13. I don’t know what to do or how to do it. But if someone else can tell me what or how I’m in for a new revolution and maybe a Revelation or two.

  14. RoboLsd,

The only thing I think would work is what Gandhi and India used against England. It cost some lives but it worked. Lets collectively sit on our butts and say no.

I’m not a gambler, but I’d happily hitch a ride on the WABAC machine with Peabody and Sherman and wager that there would still be U.S. advisors/troops in South Vietnam in fall 1965, when the engagements really started to ramp up (Ia Drang campaign et al.).

MR, on the JFK conspiracy-of-all-conspiracies: extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Or at least some evidence.

Absolutely no disrespect intended here… My father-in-law, a highly decorated, 3-tour, USMC combat infantryman gives a rather less subversive view of Vietnam-era military service.

  16. “Peabody and his boy Sherman”? Haven’t heard of them in years.

Did You Know….Cecile and Beanie, Crusader Rabbit, Rocky and Bullwinkle were all written by the same people.

  17. Anon, did you know that all Lennon-McCartney songs were not written by two people?

  18. Damn! You mean………

  19. Yes, Anon, Bullwinkle wrote Crusader Rabbit, and, Rocky did write “Rocky Raccoon”…..

  20. Well, that changes everything.
