Music Trivia 04.29.07

We all know that Deep Purple’s hit Smoke on the water was based on a true story. Concerning the album that it is from “Machinehead” which celebrates it’s 30th anniversary this year. What was bassest Roger Glover arressted for in 1972 at Heathrow Airport that is directely related to the recording of that album and that song? A hint, not drugs.

Was he arrested for starting the fire in the motel where FZ and the Mothers were playing?…..

  2. Negative MR. Another hint, it has to do with his Bass guitar.

  3. Ok Kids, No takers Huh? The story as told by Roger himself. ” He bought the Rickenbacker Bass that he used the 1st time during the recording of Machine head in New York, He had the Retailer make a false receipt lowering the price. The next day his road manager flew back to england with the Bass, he was stopped at Heathrow and the customs thought that the declared price seemed a little low, he was detained. He called Roger and said that when he flew in he would be arrested, and he was the day before the band was to fly out to Montroux. In order to get his bass back he had to pay the full duty, the fine for himself as well as his road Mgr.. Something I didn’t know, Machine head was slated to be a Live album recorded at the casino the next night, The Stones mobile studio was parked outside when the fire happened. Later that night They were sitting in a nearby bistro and Ritchie jotted down the words “Smoke on the Water” On a napkin and the rest is history. I’m gonna give MR 1 point just for making a guess.
