MR Coroner BREAKING NEWS 5/13/12

We have been informed of the sudden passing Of the Person who Sir Paul McCartney called “The Best Bass Player ever” Donald “Duck” Dunn.at age 70 In Tokyo, Japan.

Donald “Duck” Dunn (November 24, 1941 – May 13, 2012)[1][2] was an American bass guitarist, record producer, and songwriter. Dunn was notable for his 1960s recordings with Booker T. & the M.G.’s and as a session bassist for Stax Records, which specialized in blues and gospel-infused southern soul and Memphis soul music styles. Dunn also performed on recordings with The Blues Brothers, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Albert King, Levon Helm, Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Guy Sebastian, Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, Roy Buchanan and Arthur Conley.

On the morning of May 13, 2012, Dunn died in his sleep after finishing a double show at the Blue Note night club in Tokyo the night before. Dunn had been in the country as part of an ongoing tour with Steve Cropper and Eddie Floyd.He is survived by his wife, June; a son, Jeff; and a grandchild, Michael

  1. Man, say it isn’t so!…… Duck was the GREATEST of the GREAT!…… I plan to dig out both of the Blues Brothers DVD’s and watch them in moratorium of the loss of another classic musician….. I’m just speechless – What can you say?…… I guess Jimi summed it up, “See you in the next World, and don’t be late”….. There’s got to be some great gigs going on up there right now……

    Jimi definitely had it right. And in the words of the Righteous Brothers, “If there’s a Rock and Roll Heaven, Then you know they got a hell of a band”.

  3. I was telling this 20-30 something guy how great Booker and the M.G.s were. He’d never heard of them. So, I played a CD for him. “I know them” he said. “That was the music in a film I saw. They’re great” I tried to pull a old men know stuff, “Yup”.
