Johnny B. Goode?

MR, do you have a report for us on the Johnny Winter performance at the Bricktown Blues Fest?
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend. Another one of those old age things, more than likely.

  1. I KNEW someone was going to ask about this…. RtG already asked on the other Bricktown post, so this will be the answer for all concerned….. I could make-up a story, but, here are the facts….. There were heavy thunderstorms in the early hours on Saturday and they continued to predict a 60-70% chance of more of the same starting around 9:00 pm….. Johnny Winter was scheduled to start at 10:45 and end at Midnight…. I picked-up some kind of stomach flu, abdominal pain, whatever, Friday night, which got worse on Saturday, but, I still wasn’t going to give-up until the last minute…. I talked to “Blu” (a friend I used to share in a practice studio with our two individual bands) around 8:30 pm and he made a run down to Bricktown since it wasn’t far from his house….. He called me back around 9:15 or so and said that every parking lot had “Lot Full” signs out, the concert area was an open field with only the stage covered with a tent, and it looked seriously as if rain and thunderstorms were about to move in….. I made the decision that I didn’t need to be caught out in a thunderstorm, blocks away from my car feeling the way I did so I threw in the towel and didn’t go….. It turned out, which is a usual occurrence for Oklahoma – unpredictable weather, the rain stayed just south of the city…. I haven’t heard any reports on the news or from anyone if JW even played and if he did, how good it was….. If anyone knows I would be interested….. I’ll check out this week’s “Gazette”, which comes out on Wednesday or Thursday, and see if there’s any mention of it in there, and make a report to the community if no one has any info before then….. I hated to miss him, but, it just seemed a weird series of events prevented it…. Oh, well, I do have lots of JW recordings, and if I don’t see him in this life, I’ll see him in the next…. And I won’t be late…..

Us old farts are pathetic. We should get our butts in gear and see if we can still make some music.
