{"id":360,"date":"2006-12-06T02:27:37","date_gmt":"2006-12-06T07:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/?p=360"},"modified":"2006-12-14T02:47:27","modified_gmt":"2006-12-14T07:47:27","slug":"turkey-and-gravy-soda-just-like-moms-burp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/06\/turkey-and-gravy-soda-just-like-moms-burp\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey and Gravy Soda &#8212; Just like Mom&#8217;s &#8212; Burp!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago, Tarn and I hosted a Jones Holiday Soda tasting party.&nbsp; We had two soda packages from Jones: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonessoda.com\/files_new\/turkey05.html\">The 2005 Regional Pack<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonessoda.com\/files_new\/turkey06.html\">The 2006 Holiday Pack<\/a> (9 sodas total), and we paired them with the real dishes.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img id=\"image361\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/soda_lineup.jpg\" alt=\"Soda Lineup\"\/><\/div>\n<p>We also captured the <strong>tasting notes<\/strong> of various attendees.&nbsp; Here they are for your enjoyment:<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\">\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\">1&nbsp;<em>Smoked&nbsp;Salmon&nbsp;Pat\u00c3\u00a9<\/em><\/td>\n<td>Slight fishy nose, overly saccharin, lacks saline quality &#8212; 87<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Too sweet for salmon<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"4\">2&nbsp;<em>Sweet&nbsp;Potatoes<\/em><\/td>\n<td>No aroma, candied flavor, caramel notes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Caramel nose &amp; overtones, slightly vegetable quality, candied sweet potato &#8212; 90<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Burnt sugar nose, sweet aftertaste<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Maple syrup smell, just tastes sweet, not much flavor<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>3&nbsp;<em>Broccoli&nbsp;Casserole<\/em><\/td>\n<td>Gravy nose &amp; color of raw sewage, possibly broccoli floaters, more butterscotch than broccoli &#8212; 85<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"5\">4&nbsp;<em>Corn&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;Cob<\/em><\/td>\n<td>1st one I dumped<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Smells like butterscotch &amp; tastes like butterscotch &amp; Alkaseltzer<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>No body, only thin butterscotch &amp; candycorn flavor &#8212; ok but where&#8217;s the corn? (and where&#8217;s the cob!?) &#8212; 85<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Fine bubbles<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Buttery sweet smell but no flavor.  Dies on the tongue<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\">5&nbsp;<em>Turkey&nbsp;and&nbsp;Gravy<\/em><\/td>\n<td>More raw sewage color\/butterscotch &amp; canned gravy nose with surprisingly similar taste.  The closest thing to turkey I can imagine being carbonated &amp; bottled! &#8212; 90<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Disgusting<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"5\">6&nbsp;<em>Pea<\/em><\/td>\n<td>All green butterscotch &#8212; Where&#8217;s the <strike>beef <\/strike>pea? &#8212; 85<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Citrus finish<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Chemical taste but not in a bad way<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Best color<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Least offensive so far<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"3\">7&nbsp;<em>Dinner&nbsp;Roll<\/em><\/td>\n<td>The logical progression of Wonderbread: completely lacking a crust and vaguely sweet-butter flavor. Completely awful, but on target &#8212; 88<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>More buttery than butter<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Little flavor<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>8&nbsp;<em>Antacid&nbsp;Flavored<\/em><\/td>\n<td>Although it looks more Pepto than antacid, flavor is good and on target &#8212; a great break before dessert! &#8212; 94!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"2\">9&nbsp;<em>Pecan&nbsp;Pie<\/em><\/td>\n<td>More butterscotch, but this time not offensive to the target flavor.  Slight moldy overtone &#8212; but is it pecan? &#8212; 91<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Leaves a weird film in your mouth.
