A couple of weeks ago, Tarn and I hosted a Jones Holiday Soda tasting party.  We had two soda packages from Jones: The 2005 Regional Pack<\/a> and The 2006 Holiday Pack<\/a> (9 sodas total), and we paired them with the real dishes.<\/p>\n

1 Smoked Salmon Pat\u00c3\u00a9<\/em><\/td>\nSlight fishy nose, overly saccharin, lacks saline quality — 87<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Too sweet for salmon<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
2 Sweet Potatoes<\/em><\/td>\nNo aroma, candied flavor, caramel notes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Caramel nose & overtones, slightly vegetable quality, candied sweet potato — 90<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Burnt sugar nose, sweet aftertaste<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Maple syrup smell, just tastes sweet, not much flavor<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3 Broccoli Casserole<\/em><\/td>\nGravy nose & color of raw sewage, possibly broccoli floaters, more butterscotch than broccoli — 85<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4 Corn on the Cob<\/em><\/td>\n1st one I dumped<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Smells like butterscotch & tastes like butterscotch & Alkaseltzer<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
No body, only thin butterscotch & candycorn flavor — ok but where’s the corn? (and where’s the cob!?) — 85<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Fine bubbles<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Buttery sweet smell but no flavor. Dies on the tongue<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5 Turkey and Gravy<\/em><\/td>\nMore raw sewage color\/butterscotch & canned gravy nose with surprisingly similar taste. The closest thing to turkey I can imagine being carbonated & bottled! — 90<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Disgusting<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
6 Pea<\/em><\/td>\nAll green butterscotch — Where’s the beef <\/strike>pea? — 85<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Citrus finish<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chemical taste but not in a bad way<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Best color<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Least offensive so far<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
7 Dinner Roll<\/em><\/td>\nThe logical progression of Wonderbread: completely lacking a crust and vaguely sweet-butter flavor. Completely awful, but on target — 88<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
More buttery than butter<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Little flavor<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
8 Antacid Flavored<\/em><\/td>\nAlthough it looks more Pepto than antacid, flavor is good and on target — a great break before dessert! — 94!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
9 Pecan Pie<\/em><\/td>\nMore butterscotch, but this time not offensive to the target flavor. Slight moldy overtone — but is it pecan? — 91<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
