{"id":336,"date":"2006-10-18T10:40:27","date_gmt":"2006-10-18T15:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/?p=336"},"modified":"2006-10-18T10:40:27","modified_gmt":"2006-10-18T15:40:27","slug":"construction-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/18\/construction-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction Projects&#8230;.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If your idea of a <strong>Construction Project<\/strong> is a bunch of Red-necked workers in hard hats with tool belts standing around whistling at passing women, here is some of the terminology I have to deal with in the bidding, construction, and completion of a typical modern <strong>Construction Project<\/strong>&#8230;..<br \/>\n<strong>Activity<\/strong>: A discrete part of a project that can be identified for planning, scheduling, monitoring, and controlling the construction project.  <strong>Activities<\/strong> included in a construction schedule consume time and resources.<br \/>\n<strong>Critical Activities<\/strong> are activities on the <strong>Critical Path<\/strong>.  They must start and finish on the planned early start and finish times.<br \/>\n<strong>Predecessor Activity<\/strong>: An activity that precedes another activity in the network.<br \/>\n<strong>Successor Activity<\/strong>:  An activity that follows another activity in the network.<br \/>\n<strong>Critical Path<\/strong>:  The longest connected chain of interdependent activities through the network schedule that establishes the minimum overall Project duration and contains no float.<br \/>\n<strong>Float<\/strong>:  The measure of leeway in starting and completing an activity.  <strong>Float Time<\/strong> is not for the exclusive use or benefit of either Owner or Contractor, but is a jointly owned, expiring Project resource available to both parties as needed to meet schedule milestones and Contract completion date.<br \/>\n<strong>Free Float<\/strong> is the amount of time an activity can be delayed without adversely affecting the early start of the successor activity.<br \/>\n<strong>Total Float<\/strong> is the measure of leeway in starting or completing an activity without adversely affecting the planned Project completion date.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;..And here is the one I really love:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fragnet<\/strong>:  A partial or fragmentary network that breaks down activities into smaller activities for greater detail.<\/p>\n<p>So, the next time you think that all it took was a bunch of <strong>Peanut-Heads<\/strong> to build the building you work in, just re-read this post&#8230;&#8230; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If your idea of a Construction Project is a bunch of Red-necked workers in hard hats with tool belts standing around whistling at passing women, here is some of the terminology I have to deal with in the bidding, construction, and completion of a typical modern Construction Project&#8230;..
