{"id":291,"date":"2006-07-20T16:57:26","date_gmt":"2006-07-20T21:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/?p=291"},"modified":"2006-07-20T17:02:31","modified_gmt":"2006-07-20T22:02:31","slug":"airline-maintenance-fixes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mrambler.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/20\/airline-maintenance-fixes\/","title":{"rendered":"Airline Maintenance Fixes&#8230;&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t posted a <strong>&#8220;WELL DUH!&#8221;<\/strong> in a while&#8230;&#8230;  I got this from a friend and don&#8217;t know if it has made the rounds or not, but I thought if you hadn&#8217;t seen it, you might enjoy it&#8230;&#8230;.<br \/>\n**Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school  diploma to fix one&#8230;&#8230;<br \/>\nAfter every flight, <strong>Qantas&#8217;<\/strong> pilots fill out a form, called a <strong>&#8220;gripe sheet&#8221;<\/strong>, which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft&#8230;&#8230; The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then the pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight&#8230;&#8230;  Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor.<br \/>\nHere are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by <strong>Qantas&#8217;<\/strong> pilots <strong>(marked with a P)<\/strong> and the solutions recorded <strong>(marked with an S)<\/strong> by maintenance engineers.  By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Almost replaced left inside main tire.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Something loose in cockpit.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Something tightened in cockpit.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Dead bugs on windshield.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Live bugs on back-order.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Evidence removed.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: DME volume unbelievably loud.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: DME volume set to more believable level.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: That&#8217;s what friction locks are for.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Suspected crack in windshield.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Suspect you&#8217;re right.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Number 3 engine missing.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Engine found on right wing after brief search.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Aircraft handles funny.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Target radar hums.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Mouse in cockpit.<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>: Cat installed.<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Noise coming from under instrument panel.
